Children and Parenting

All children accommodated by Orana House are seen as clients in their own right and are assessed to develop their individual support plans.

Our child advocates ensure that children’s developmental and health needs are being met and make referrals to relevant agencies if required. They help mothers enrol their children into daycare, kindy or school and undertake individual work directly with the children, the mothers, and together.

Our focus is on improving attachment relationships and assisting mums in understanding their children’s needs in the aftermath of trauma caused by family and domestic violence. A lot of work is done on structure and routines as well as understanding and managing difficult behaviour.
