Crisis Accommodation
The Orana House Women’s Refuge provides safe, temporary accommodation and associated support services to women and their children who need to escape family and domestic violence. Our refuge has the capacity to accommodate five families at any one time, with a maximum of 24 persons. The premises were specifically designed to meet the needs of larger families, including those with disabilities and accompanying older male children.
While in the Refuge, women and children have access to a range of support services including:
- Case management
- Assessment of needs, information, referrals
- Support and safety planning
- Advocacy
- Counselling
- Practical assistance (in the form of emergency relief for food and fares)
- Transport to and support during appointments
- Court support
- Assistance with securing and moving to longer-term accommodation
- Outreach and aftercare
Our skilled and experienced staff members offer activities and support to children. They are also able to assist women in understanding and managing their children’s behaviour, improving attachment and other parenting issues. A specialist children’s counsellor also attends the refuge to provide direct counselling to women and children
